Figure Friday: A Ghost-Spider Miniature Swings In!

A painted Ghost-Spider miniature
Painted Ghost-Spider

She may be making her debut a week late, but Ghost-Spider from Marvel United is painted and ready to hit the table!

What I Like

Ghost-Spider was actually the first miniature I’ve ever finished without using a wash during the painting process. Since the majority of her suit is white, I was worried that the wash would just make her look dirty so I avoided it altogether. I’m pretty happy with the result!

Thanks to a suggestion from my wife, I took the time and focus to paint the highlighted webs on the inside of her hood and now they really stand out. On the same note with small details, I love how her shoes turned out, giving that little splash of color at the bottom of the figure. I’m not sure if the original miniature just didn’t have a ton of defined details or if I hit it too hard with the primer, but during the painting process it was difficult to see lines between the white and black parts of her suit and shoes. I ended up winging it a bit, but I guess that makes my figure a little unique.

One last thing, I ended up mixing the brick color on my own and I think it turned out pretty great!

What I Want to Improve

Painting white continues to be a tricky process as it often just looks chalky, but thanks to one of my newest bottles of paint (Citadel Corax White) I’m feeling a lot better about building up from an actual base paint. I even tried to bring out some shadows on the white underneath the back of her hood and under her arms, although those could be cleaner next time.

The Paints I Used

  • White: Citadel Corax White (base) and Master Series Paint Dragon White (layers)
  • Black: Citadel Abaddon Black
  • Pink: Citadel Emperor’s Children
  • Shoes: Master Series Paint Dragon Blue mixed with White
  • Bricks: Citadel Mephiston Red mixed with Black
  • No Wash
