Figure Friday: Painted Hodor and Bran

Painted Hodor and Bran in miniature form

Here’s another Song of Ice and Fire miniature, my recently finished Hodor and Bran! My back has been killing me the past few weeks but things are feeling much better after a few visits to the chiropractor, so I’m excited to get back to some painting.

What I Like

I dig this sculpt a lot. Having Bran riding around in the basket is obviously fitting, so this miniature is kind of a two-for-one. I’m also happy with how I was able to kind of tie in Hodor with Stark colors using the same greys I use for Stark soldiers, but utilizing a very dark grey that I usually reserve for rocks. Hodor does more than just carry Bran around, he protects the young boy, so he’s like a Stark guard in his own right.

What I Want to Improve

I’m slowly getting better at covering up some of the general grunginess that the Nuln Oil wash leaves, but it really likes to show up on greys. Sometimes I get so excited to be nearly done with a figure that I don’t take the extra time to pass over and clean up a few details after the wash, so I’d like to work on that moving forward.

The Paints I Used

  • Hodor’s Pants/Bran’s Undershirt: Vallejo Sky Grey

Next Week’s Challenge

Thanks for checking out another one of my posts! I wanted to do something a little different for next week and challenge myself to paint a figure that’s been primed for a little while: Red Skull! I’ll post some photos of my progress throughout the week on Twitter and then feature the finished foe next Friday!
